“Power Warning Lifted in Newfoundland, Residents on Power Watch”

Residents of Newfoundland no longer need to conserve electricity as the power warning issued by Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro has been lifted. A power watch is now in effect, urging residents to be prepared to conserve energy if necessary. The warning was issued on Saturday morning when the Bay d’Espoir hydroelectric plant experienced an outage due to the blockage of its intake pipes by thick, frazil ice. Residents were urged to reduce energy consumption to prevent potential power shortages that could lead to planned blackouts. Currently, six out of the seven generator units at the Bay d’Espoir plant are operational following the removal of large amounts of frazil ice from the intake pipes. The power watch remains in place as a precaution due to the anticipated frigid temperatures in the region until Tuesday. Some municipalities are set to resume normal operations on Monday, with the City of Mount Pearl announcing that all city facilities will be open as usual starting Monday morning.
