Situated in historic Fort William, Simpson Street has seen significant transformations over time, with vacant buildings now dotting the landscape. However, business owners like Chris Talarico of Carlito’s Board Game Cafe believe there is more to the street than meets the eye, emphasizing the presence of numerous businesses and ongoing activities in the area.
Ellis is currently renovating 114-B Simpson St. to establish a female-led business in partnership with Urban Abbey, aiming to empower women from its transitional housing. She envisions a collaborative effort among local businesses to breathe new life into the neighborhood.
Regarding infrastructure improvements, Thunder Bay’s Simpson Street Rehabilitation Project is in its third year, focusing on upgrading underground utilities, resurfacing roads, and enhancing lighting. Urban Abbey’s expansion plans include additional transitional housing units and programming space at the former Adanac Hotel.
