Canada’s rising tennis star, Victoria Mboko, secured a spot in the semifinals once again. The 19-year-old athlete from Toronto triumphed over American player Madison Keys in a hard-fought quarterfinal match at the Adelaide International tennis tournament. Mboko, seeded eighth in the tournament, seized an early advantage by breaking Keys in the first set but struggled against the powerful serves of the second-seeded Keys, the reigning Australian Open champion.
During the one-hour and 53-minute match, Keys delivered an impressive performance, firing eight aces, six of which came in the second set alone. However, Mboko showcased her resilience by winning 75% of her first-serve points in the decisive third set and capitalizing on the only breakpoint opportunity she had.
In the upcoming semifinals, Mboko will face off against Australia’s Kimberly Birrell. This achievement follows Mboko’s remarkable 2025 season on the WTA Tour, where she was recognized as the WTA Newcomer of the Year. After clinching the National Bank Open in Montreal and significantly improving her ranking from 333 to 18 throughout the season, Mboko is poised to make her debut at the Australian Open later this month.
