Actor and activist Danny Glover, famous for his role as a laid-back police officer in the popular “Lethal Weapon” series, has shared that he is battling Alzheimer’s disease. Glover, a four-time Emmy Award nominee set to celebrate his 80th birthday on July 22, disclosed to NBC’s “Today” show and People magazine that he received the diagnosis of this progressive memory-depleting condition three years ago.
Expressing his struggle to come to terms with the disease, Glover told People, “I’m still grappling with the reality of it. Certain memories persist, affirming my ability to recollect things, while some moments will forever stay etched in my mind.”
Alzheimer’s, the most prevalent type of dementia, affects over six million Americans and a significant number globally. In Canada, Statistics Canada reports that more than 750,000 individuals are coping with the illness.
Glover’s remarkable career has garnered him four Emmy Award nominations and an honorary Oscar in 2022. He has also been recognized by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and Black Entertainment Television, along with receiving nominations from the Screen Actors Guild.
Furthermore, Glover dedicated his time as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Development Program between 1998 and 2004, focusing on addressing poverty, disease, and economic advancement in Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
