The Recording Academy has made adjustments to the rules for the upcoming 2026 Grammy Awards, introducing five new award categories. The new categories include Best Asian Pop Music Performance, recognizing artists from genres like K-pop, J-pop, and C-pop. Additionally, a new award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance will honor performers whose music differs significantly from contemporary pop styles.
Another new category, Best Latin Song, has been established to acknowledge songwriters of predominantly Spanish-language Latin songs. Changes have also been implemented in the R&B and folk categories, with the addition of Best R&B Collaboration or Duo/Group Performance and the renaming of Best Folk Album to Best Contemporary Folk Album, along with the inclusion of a new Best Traditional Folk Album category.
In a move to adapt to the evolving music landscape, the Grammy Awards have revised the criteria for submissions in various categories. Notably, adjustments have been made to the Best New Artist category, allowing artists to submit up to four times instead of the previous limit of three. This change aims to better accommodate the time it takes for artists to establish themselves in the industry. The eligibility criteria now consider an artist’s impact on the music industry in the relevant year, with past Grammy nominees being ineligible.
Furthermore, qualified members will now have the opportunity to vote in more award categories. Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming Grammy Awards, highlighting the industry’s growth and diversity. Mason emphasized that the changes reflect the evolving music landscape and the various genres and creators contributing to its development.
