Canadian figure skaters Alicia Fabbri and Paul Ayer secured the fourth spot in ice dance, while Gabrielle Daleman clinched the seventh position in women’s singles at the Four Continents Championships in Beijing on Friday.
The ice dance podium was dominated by American skaters. Emilea Zingas and Vadym Kolesnik claimed the gold medal with a total of 202.86 points. Caroline Green and Michael Parsons secured the silver medal with 194.72 points, followed by Oona and Gage Brown who took home the bronze with 190.78 points.
Fabbri and Ayer, who have previously won the Canadian championship bronze medals twice, received a total of 183.49 points for their performance.
In the women’s event, Yuna Aoki from Japan emerged victorious with 217.39 points. Her compatriots Ami Nakai (215.78) and Mone Chiba (202.23) secured the silver and bronze medals respectively.
Daleman, a two-time Olympian, slipped from fourth place after the short program to finish in seventh position following the free skate, accumulating a total of 183.47 points.
The 28-year-old skater from Newmarket, Ontario, participated in only her second international competition after a hiatus due to a back injury and two ankle surgeries. Despite aiming to be the first Canadian woman to compete in three Olympics in singles, Madeline Schizas secured Canada’s sole spot for the upcoming Milan Cortina Games.
Several skaters bound for the Olympics, including Schizas, opted out of the Four Continents Championships due to its proximity to the Games.
