Canadian Para skiers Kurt Oatway and Mollie Jepsen claimed gold medals during a recent World Cup event held in Saalbach, Austria. Oatway emerged victorious in the men’s sitting super-G competition, securing the top spot with a time of one minute, 6.25 seconds. This win followed his bronze medal achievement in the previous race of the season. Reflecting on his performance, Oatway expressed the challenges of the race and his satisfaction with the outcome, especially after overcoming injuries over the past year.

Jepsen, hailing from West Vancouver, B.C., triumphed in the women’s standing super-G race with a time of 1:08.35. This victory marked her eighth podium finish out of 11 races this season. Jepsen expressed her happiness and relief with her performance, highlighting her determination and confidence in her skiing abilities. Varvara Voronchikhina of Russia secured the silver medal, while France’s Aurelie Richard claimed the bronze.

In the men’s standing super-G event, Canadian Alexis Guimond clinched the bronze medal. Guimond, a native of Gatineau, Que., had previously won the super-G event but settled for third place in the recent competition. Despite some mistakes during the race, Guimond acknowledged his strong skiing performance and expressed contentment with his podium finish, concluding the event series on a positive note. France’s Arthur Bauchet took the gold medal, with Russia’s Aleksei Bugaev securing the silver. Michaela Gosselin from Collingwood, Ont., finished in fifth place in the women’s race.
