“Canadian Astronaut’s Historic Voyage to Deep Space”

A forthcoming book will recount Jeremy Hansen’s groundbreaking voyage on the Artemis II mission this autumn. Titled “Earthrise: A Canadian Astronaut’s Journey into Deep Space,” the book will narrate Hansen’s perspective as the first Canadian to venture into deep space. John Larsen, a former senior military public affairs officer, is the author of this upcoming publication.

The Artemis II crew set a record for the farthest distance traveled from Earth, capturing the attention and admiration of Canadians. This mission marked the first crewed lunar expedition in over five decades. Alongside Hansen, the crew comprised NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, conducting system tests and human body reaction experiments in space over a 10-day period.

Although the crew did not land on the moon, Hansen became the initial Canadian and non-American to journey to the lunar surface, witnessing previously unseen lunar landscapes. Hansen remarked, “The Artemis II mission embodies the pinnacle of human achievement in space exploration and innovation.”

Providing insights into Hansen’s extensive training, dream fulfillment of becoming an astronaut, and the lunar mission that propelled him into deep space, “Earthrise” promises readers an exclusive peek into Hansen’s extraordinary journey. Hansen recently announced his retirement from the Canadian Space Agency after a distinguished 32-year military career and 17-year tenure as an astronaut.

Larsen, a Calgary-based writer and university instructor, conducted in-depth interviews with Hansen to craft the book, his second publication. Describing it as a tale of personal accomplishment, national pride, and individual aspirations, Larsen expressed his excitement about the book’s release. “Earthrise: A Canadian Astronaut’s Journey into Deep Space” is scheduled for publication by HarperCollinsCanada on October 27, 2026.
