“WestJet Cabin Crew Reach Deal: Huge Wage Increase & Benefits”

The union representing WestJet cabin crew has disclosed details of the recent tentative agreement made with the Calgary-based airline following a brief strike. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) announced that the deal entails an increase of more than 18% in wages over a three-year period, along with the introduction of a new “duty period premium” to compensate for ground work. Additionally, the agreement includes extended time off, enhanced food and uniform allowances, and other benefits.

During the long holiday weekend, all WestJet flights in many parts of Canada were grounded as 4,400 flight attendants prepared to strike, which commenced early Sunday. However, a tentative agreement was reached between the airline and the union on Monday morning, leading to a gradual return to normal operations for WestJet.

The cabin crew members are scheduled to vote on the agreement in the forthcoming weeks.
