Preparations for the upcoming 2026 Montana’s Brier in St. John’s are in full swing, with the final batch of tickets set to be released on Tuesday at 12 p.m. NT. Eugene Trickett, the vice-chair of the tournament committee, anticipates releasing approximately 350 to 450 tickets for each draw, given the high demand witnessed so far. The excitement is largely fueled by the opportunity to witness local favorite Brad Gushue’s farewell performance before his retirement.
Trickett expressed his anticipation for a unique Brier experience, highlighting the rarity of a competitor retiring on their home turf. Fans are eager to catch Gushue in action, reminiscent of the overwhelming support he received during the 2017 national tournament held in St. John’s, where he clinched his first Brier title in front of a hometown crowd.
Tickets for the event can be purchased through Curling Canada’s website, with the possibility of additional tickets becoming available in the lead-up to the tournament as unused tickets are released. While securing event tickets may prove challenging, individuals interested in participating can still contribute by volunteering. The tournament committee is close to reaching its target of recruiting 400 volunteers, with remaining positions available at the Patch – the entertainment hub located at the St. John’s Convention Centre.
The Patch is expected to be a vibrant space featuring bars, food vendors, and live performances by popular acts such as the Irish Descendants and Billy and the Bruisers. Trickett foresees a bustling atmosphere, particularly on Friday and Saturday evenings, as the Patch transforms into the heart of the Brier.
