Carly Simon has shared the reasons behind her recent absence from the spotlight. The renowned singer-songwriter, known for hits like “You’re So Vain” and “Nobody Does It Better,” disclosed that she has been dealing with Parkinson’s disease and basal cell carcinoma, a type of skin cancer.
In a statement published by People, the 83-year-old American artist acknowledged the concern from her fans regarding her silence and health. Simon expressed that she has been grappling with Parkinson’s disease, which was diagnosed after she experienced arthritis in both knees and a hip, leading to multiple replacement surgeries.
The Grammy-winning singer admitted that the Parkinson’s diagnosis took time to process and decide how much to share publicly due to its unpredictable nature. Simultaneously, she underwent treatment for skin cancer which affected her appearance and made her more self-conscious about being in public.
Despite the challenges posed by Parkinson’s, Simon emphasized that she has not stopped living or working. She revealed that she has been working on a new album titled “Comes in Waves,” crediting music for being a constant source of support during difficult times.
Acknowledging the daily struggles of living with Parkinson’s, Simon highlighted the importance of acceptance and adapting to the changes it brings. While she does not view the condition as a gift, she is resilient and determined to continue her musical journey, moving at a slower pace but remaining present and committed to her craft.
