The Torrent, an expansion team, achieved a franchise milestone by scoring six goals in a single game, tying for the highest goal tally in the Professional Women’s Hockey League this season. The game witnessed a total of 10 goals, marking the highest combined scoring output in a PWHL match this season. The previous record was set when Minnesota and Seattle netted a total of eight goals in a game earlier in the season.
Contributions from players like Jessie Eldridge, who scored a goal and provided two assists, and Hannah Bilka, who added a goal and an assist, were instrumental in Seattle’s victory. Hilary Knight, Julia Gosling, and Megan Carter also found the back of the net for the Torrent. Carter’s goal, her first in the PWHL and the first by a Seattle defender this season, extended Seattle’s lead to 5-3 with 14:34 remaining in the game. Goalkeeper Corinne Schroeder made 31 saves to secure the win.
On the opposing side, Toronto saw goals from Blayre Turnbull, Jesse Compher, Kali Flanagan, and Natalie Spooner. Despite their efforts, Toronto (4-1-3-6) fell short against Seattle’s strong performance. Turnbull and Compher scored early on to give Toronto a 2-0 lead, but Flanagan’s goal in the second period tied the game at 3-3.
The Toronto Sceptres will face the Vancouver Goldeneyes next, while the Seattle Torrent will take on the same opponents in their upcoming match at Ball Arena in Denver as part of the PWHL’s Takeover Tour.
