Premier Kinew Stands with Minnesota Amid Fatal Shooting

Premier Wab Kinew expresses support for Minnesotans following the fatal shooting of a woman in Minneapolis by a U.S. immigration officer, sparking protests. Kinew reached out to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan to offer assistance and solidarity. He emphasized Manitoba’s backing for its neighbors and called for an end to the ongoing turmoil.

Video footage captured an ICE agent firing three shots at Renee Nicole Good, contradicting claims by U.S. officials that she was attempting to ram the officer with her SUV. The incident triggered protests, leading Governor Walz to declare a “day of unity” in the state to address tensions and prevent further violence.

Kinew referenced former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura’s recent remarks likening the U.S. political situation to a “third-world country.” Drawing parallels to military police operations, Kinew highlighted concerns about the state of American politics. He encouraged Manitobans to support American friends and family during this challenging time.

Additionally, Kinew addressed the Manitoba Progressive Conservative Party’s response to a board member’s controversial comments supporting ICE on social media. Party Leader Obby Khan distanced the party from the member, Patrick Allard, suspending him for his remarks following the tragic shooting.
