Netflix Canada has revealed plans to adapt another one of Carley Fortune’s popular romance novels into a 10-episode series. The series will be based on Fortune’s third novel, “This Summer Will Be Different,” which follows the story of Lucy during a summer in Prince Edward Island where she meets Felix, her best friend Bridget’s younger brother, leading to a complex romantic entanglement. The adaptation will be filmed in Toronto and P.E.I., staying true to the book’s original settings.
Carley Fortune, a Toronto-based writer and journalist, expressed her excitement about bringing the love story to the screen, drawing inspiration from her own experiences on Prince Edward Island. She shared that the island’s beauty, the warmth of its people, and the enduring nature of friendships were pivotal in shaping the narrative of “This Summer Will Be Different.” The author is known for her other novels, including “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” and “Meet Me at the Lake,” with her latest book, “Our Perfect Storm,” set to be published soon.
Additionally, Fortune’s previous works have also garnered attention in the entertainment industry. “Every Summer After” is currently being produced as a television series called “Every Year After” on Amazon Prime Video, while “Meet Me At the Lake” was optioned for a film adaptation by Netflix and Archewell Productions in 2023, owned by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Notably, “Meet Me At the Lake” was a contender for Canada Reads and championed in 2024 by Mirian Njoh, marking a significant achievement in the romance genre.
