“Kaltounkova Leads New York Sirens to Shutout Victory”

Kristýna Kaltounkova netted two goals, while Kayle Osborne made 31 saves to secure a shutout as the New York Sirens triumphed over the Sceptres with a 2-0 victory in Toronto during the Professional Women’s Hockey League match on Tuesday.

The win propelled New York’s winning streak to four games, maintaining their strong form at 6-0-0-5. Conversely, Toronto, with a record of 4-0-3-4, faced their third consecutive defeat despite Elaine Chuli’s 20 saves.

Kaltounkova scored her first goal by redirecting a point shot from Jincy Roese early in the second period. Shortly after, she had a penalty shot opportunity, although she hit the post. Nonetheless, Kaltounkova sealed the win with an empty-net goal in the final seconds of the game.

Toronto struggled to convert prime scoring chances, making a late push that was denied by Osborne’s solid performance. On the other hand, New York capitalized on their opportunities to secure the victory, pushing them ahead of the Minnesota Frost to claim the second spot in the PWHL standings, trailing the Boston Fleet by just one point.

The pivotal moment came with Kaltounkova’s tip-in goal, providing the Sirens with the necessary cushion to withstand Toronto’s late efforts.

Daryl Watts entered the game with an impressive five-game point streak and a four-game goal streak, nearing league records set by New York’s Sarah Fillier from the previous season.

In their upcoming matches, the Sirens will host the Minnesota Frost on January 16, while the Sceptres will visit the Boston Fleet on January 14.
