“John Reardon Returns as Detective Charlie in ‘Hudson & Rex’ Season 9”

Detective Charlie Hudson is making a comeback as John Reardon reprises his role in Season 9 of the TV series, “Hudson & Rex,” as confirmed by Citytv. Reardon, a native of Halifax, originally starred in the cop-dog procedural but was temporarily replaced by English actor Luke Roberts in the previous season.

Last year, Reardon disclosed on social media that his departure was not voluntary. He revealed that he had been diagnosed with tonsil cancer during Season 7, underwent treatment, and received clearance from doctors to resume filming. However, the production team opted to make a change in casting, sparking a global backlash from fans who campaigned for his reinstatement through social media and newspaper advertisements.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Reardon stated his eagerness to reprise his role as Charlie, acknowledging the worldwide support for the series. The show’s production company, Shaftesbury, expressed delight in his return, with chairman and CEO Christina Jennings emphasizing the anticipation of a new season filled with thrilling adventures for fans.

Production for the upcoming season is set to commence in June in St. John’s, N.L., with a teaser hinting at Charlie’s return from South America to fulfill a final mission before leaving behind his past troubles in Belize. Additionally, it was confirmed that Luke Roberts will continue to play the role of Det. Mark Hudson in the series moving forward.
