Nielsen asserted that only Greenland and Denmark have the authority to engage in negotiations concerning their territories.
Nielsen expressed willingness to collaborate with the U.S. on mineral resources and security, pending further clarification on the U.S.’s objectives. Trump reversed his stance on imposing tariffs on European nations to assert control over Greenland, indicating a shift towards a framework deal on Greenland and Arctic security with Rutte.
In discussions with Denmark and NATO, Nielsen highlighted the need for enhanced security measures in the region. He hinted at potential cooperation on the U.S.’s “Golden Dome” missile defense system, emphasizing mutual benefits.
