The Minnesota Frost secured a 3-2 victory over the New York Sirens in an intense match in Newark, N.J., with Kendall Coyne Schofield scoring the winning goal in overtime, assisted by Taylor Heise. Coyne Schofield’s goal brought her season points tally to 14, while Heise notched her 10th assist, with four of them coming in the last two games.
This clash marked the start of five regular-season encounters between Minnesota (5-2-2-3) and New York (6-0-1-5). The Sirens had a 3-2-1-0 record against Minnesota in the previous season.
The game saw Britta Curl-Salemme opening the scoring for Minnesota with an assist from Heise, taking advantage of a goaltender error by the Sirens. Curl-Salemme’s goal was her fifth of the season, making her the league leader with 14 points, having recorded points in 10 out of 12 games played so far.
Minnesota took the lead 2-1 early in the second period when Kelly Pannek found the back of the net with her fifth goal of the season, assisted by Coyne Schofield. New York managed to level the score at 1-1 in the first period with a goal from Casey O’Brien and tied it at 2-2 in the second period with Taylor Girard’s goal, her career-high fifth of the season.
Looking ahead, Minnesota will face Montreal at home on Wednesday, while New York is set to play Montreal in a Takeover Tour game at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. on Sunday.
