Pop singer Chappell Roan announced on Monday that she has severed ties with the talent agency overseen by Casey Wasserman, the head of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. Wasserman recently faced backlash over past flirtatious email exchanges with convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell. The controversy arose after private emails between the two were made public.
Newly released files linked to the late financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, Maxwell’s former partner, revealed flirtatious emails exchanged between Wasserman and Maxwell in 2003. Roan took to Instagram to declare her decision, stating that artists deserve representation that respects their values and safeguards their well-being. She emphasized the importance of accountability and trustworthy leadership in fostering meaningful change within the entertainment industry.
Wasserman, a prominent figure in sports and entertainment, refuted any personal or professional ties to Epstein. He expressed regret over his prior relationship with Maxwell, noting it predated the revelation of her and Epstein’s criminal activities. The talent agency associated with Wasserman declined to comment immediately.
Maxwell, currently serving a 20-year prison sentence following her conviction in 2021 on charges related to sex trafficking minors, was apprehended in 2020 for allegedly recruiting and preparing young girls for illicit encounters with Epstein. The release of extensive internal documents by the U.S. Justice Department shed light on Epstein’s connections to various influential individuals both before and after his 2008 conviction on prostitution charges. His death in a New York jail in 2019 was ruled a suicide.
