Canada’s Marielle Thompson is gaining momentum leading up to the Milano-Cortina Olympics. The 33-year-old ski cross athlete secured a bronze medal at a World Cup event in Val di Fassa, Italy, marking her second podium finish in consecutive events. Thompson, the 2014 Olympic champion, shared the podium with gold medalist Jole Galli of Italy and Marielle Berger Sabbatel of France, who claimed silver.
Hailing from Whistler, B.C., Thompson also earned a bronze medal in Veysonnaz, Switzerland last week, her first medal of the season following a knee ligament injury in the previous season. Her recent success coincides with being named one of Canada’s flag bearers for the upcoming Olympic Games.
Before the Winter Games kick off next week, there is one more World Cup event on Saturday. Fans can catch the live stream of the Val di Fassa event on CBCSports.ca and CBC Gem starting at 6:30 a.m. ET. Thompson’s outstanding performances are setting the stage for an exciting Olympic campaign.
