“GO Train Partial Derailment Causes Major Delays”

Crews worked late into the night to clear a GO train that partially derailed near Union Station, causing significant delays throughout the day, according to Metrolinx. The incident occurred at 8:16 a.m. as the train was departing Union Station, with the rear of the train coming off the track and impacting a track switch, resulting in signal problems.

As a result, there were ongoing delays on multiple routes into Monday evening, with GO Transit advising passengers of modified service levels. Metrolinx assured affected customers that they would receive refunds as per the service policy. The agency also mentioned limited track availability leading to signal issues and constraints on train movement.

GO Transit announced service levels for the following day, with adjustments to train schedules on various lines. Meanwhile, commuters experienced extended travel times and disruptions, prompting some to utilize alternative transportation like Uber due to the delays. Subway service was also affected, with Line 1 experiencing interruptions earlier in the day.

Repairs were underway, and GO Transit recommended using TTC routes for travel into Union Station. The UP Express train service was temporarily replaced by express buses, affecting travel between Union Station and Pearson airport. The incident highlighted the importance of train signaling systems in maintaining safe rail operations and preventing network disruptions.

The delays had a ripple effect on commuters, causing extended travel times and frustrations. Passengers shared their experiences of significantly longer commutes and unexpected challenges due to the service disruptions. Despite the disruptions, authorities worked diligently to resolve the issues and restore normal service levels.
