Canadian romance writer Carley Fortune has revealed that her sixth book, “Only in Summer,” is set to hit bookshelves on May 18, 2027. The novel will transport readers back to Barry’s Bay, Ont., the familiar backdrop of Fortune’s previous works like “Every Summer After” and “One Golden Summer,” as well as her hometown.
In a recent newsletter announcement, Fortune shared her excitement about purchasing a cottage near Barry’s Bay, fulfilling a long-held dream since parting with her family’s lakeside home. The narrative of “Only in Summer” revolves around Eleanor Florek, known as Ellie, who mirrors Fortune’s aspiration of owning a property in Barry’s Bay.
Ellie, the cousin of Charlie and Sam from Fortune’s earlier Barry’s Bay tales, witnesses the demolition of a neighboring house to make way for a grand estate, setting the stage for an unexpected romance against the picturesque lakefront setting.
Fortune, a prominent writer and journalist based in Toronto, has a rich editorial background with reputable publications such as Refinery29, The Globe and Mail, Chatelaine, and Toronto Life. Her literary repertoire includes well-received titles like “Our Perfect Storm,” “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” “This Summer Will Be Different,” and “Meet Me at the Lake.”
“Meet Me at the Lake,” a previous work by Fortune, garnered attention as a finalist in the prestigious Canada Reads competition in 2024, championed by fashion influencer Mirian Njoh, marking a significant milestone for romance literature on the show.
