Former Canada women’s coach Kenneth Heiner-Moller has been appointed as the sporting director of national teams at Canada Soccer, taking on a key leadership role within the organization. In this new position, Heiner-Moller will oversee the management of Canada Soccer’s national teams and high-performance programs, reporting directly to CEO Kevin Blue.
As the sporting director, Heiner-Moller will be responsible for guiding national team coaches Jesse Marsch and Casey Stoney, who will report to him. Blue expressed his enthusiasm for Heiner-Moller’s return to Canada Soccer, highlighting his extensive technical expertise and global experience in executive and coaching roles.
Heiner-Moller, 55, recently served as the technical director of San Diego FC, a Major League Soccer expansion team, before transitioning to his new role with Canada Soccer. His appointment comes at a pivotal time for the organization as Canada prepares to co-host the upcoming World Cup, presenting numerous opportunities for growth and development.
Having previously worked with the Danish Football Association, Heiner-Moller brings a wealth of experience to his new position, with a focus on coach education, performance, and technical leadership. His tenure as Canada’s head coach saw the team achieve notable success, including qualification for the Women’s World Cup and the Tokyo Olympics.
Heiner-Moller’s return to Canada is not only professionally significant but also has personal significance, as it allows him to reunite with his wife, Anja Heiner-Moller, who coaches the Vancouver Rise. The couple, along with their two daughters, will soon be based in Vancouver, creating a new chapter in their soccer journey together.
