Late last week, Prime Minister Mark Carney and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith unveiled a fresh energy deal that sets the stage for a new pipeline heading to the West Coast. This agreement incorporates an industrial carbon pricing arrangement and is dependent on the approval of the Pathways project, a proposed carbon capture, utilization, and storage facility.

Environmentalists criticized the deal, contending that the Liberals are compromising the climate objectives they worked on for nearly a decade. Climate journalist Arno Kopecky, known for his work in publications like The Narwhal and Canada’s National Observer, discusses whether Mark Carney is straying from his environmental principles and the groundwork laid by the Liberals over the past ten years.
