Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have officially divorced, bringing an end to their 19-year marriage as one of the entertainment industry’s most notable power couples. During a recent hearing in Nashville, a judge issued an order to dissolve the marriage between the Oscar-winning actress and the Grammy-winning country singer. Judge Stephanie J. Williams, in court documents, stated that the couple’s agreements on dividing assets and child custody were satisfactory, leading to the granting of the divorce. The judge cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the divorce, deeming the continuation of the marriage impractical.
Both Kidman and Urban chose not to attend the hearing, and requests for comments from their representatives went unanswered. Kidman initiated the divorce proceedings in September, catching many by surprise, although preparations had been in progress for some time. All legal matters regarding assets and custody were settled and signed on the day of her divorce filing. Tennessee law mandates a 90-day waiting period for divorces involving minor children.
Kidman, 58, and Urban, 58, share two teenage daughters. Their divorce filing cited “marital difficulties and irreconcilable differences.” The agreement stipulates that Kidman will be the primary residential parent for the children, with plans for them to continue living in Nashville. Both parents waived the need for child or spousal support, and a nearly equal split of their joint assets was outlined.
Having met in Los Angeles in 2005 and tying the knot in Sydney the following year, Kidman and Urban, two of Australia’s most prominent stars in recent years, were a familiar sight on red carpets throughout their relationship. Despite publicly acknowledging some challenges in their marriage, the divorce still came as a surprise to many. This marriage was Urban’s first and Kidman’s second, having been previously married to Tom Cruise from 1990 to 2001. Kidman also has two older children from her marriage to Cruise.
