The Ottawa Senators are addressing the issue of false and baseless stories circulating online regarding goaltender Linus Ullmark and his recent absence from the team.
Ullmark, aged 32, has been on leave of absence since late December, with the team announcing on December 28 that it was due to personal reasons and emphasizing their full support for the veteran player from Sweden.
Despite not providing specific details, the team released a strongly worded statement denouncing the unfounded online rumors just before a game in Colorado, expressing disappointment at the fabricated stories being spread on social media about the team.
In a statement attributed to general manager and president of hockey operations Steve Staios, the organization expressed its disgust at the false information being circulated by malicious individuals online who ignore the player’s privacy rights.
The team firmly stated its displeasure at external attempts to disrupt the team’s operations and put an end to the unfounded speculation that had been circulating online.
Senators players, including captain Brady Tkachuk, expressed their support for Ullmark following the initial announcement by the team. As of now, there is no set timeline for Ullmark’s return to the team.
