A former associate of Elston Bostock has disclosed that the disgraced ex-Winnipeg police officer was known for providing drugs at gatherings and would casually distribute powdered substances to partygoers. The woman, who chose to remain anonymous, mentioned that Bostock, who recently admitted to drug trafficking charges and previously pleaded guilty to various offenses, was notorious for ensuring all attendees were heavily under the influence at parties between 2015 and 2019.
According to the woman, Bostock would discreetly carry a white powder in his pocket, which he would sprinkle on people by licking his finger and then transferring it to their mouths. She expressed concerns about the extent of his illegal activities given his law enforcement background.
Recent court proceedings have shed light on Bostock’s illicit practices, which also involved supplying drugs, including cocaine, MDMA, psilocybin, and cannabis, to friends and colleagues. Prosecutors stated that he did not profit from these transactions but rather did it for social reasons. Bostock’s actions have led to his dismissal from the police force and have implicated some of his peers in ongoing legal proceedings.
The court documents confirmed that Bostock distributed drugs to civilians and fellow officers, even while on duty, from 2016 to 2024. Additionally, messages exchanged between him and his colleagues revealed his involvement in trading pharmaceutical drugs like painkillers and anti-anxiety medications, along with recreational substances like MDMA and cannabis.
Experts have highlighted the detrimental impact of Bostock’s conduct on public trust in law enforcement. Tandeep Sidhu, an assistant professor at the University of Manitoba, noted that Bostock’s case points to a systemic issue within the Winnipeg Police Service, eroding confidence in the institution. The revelations about Bostock’s activities emerged following a thorough investigation of his phone and internal police inquiries.
The woman who disclosed the details about Bostock’s drug-related behavior expressed reluctance to report him to the authorities, citing fear of repercussions within the police community. She emphasized the challenges in addressing such misconduct within a system that may protect its own members. The road to rebuilding public trust in the wake of these revelations poses a significant challenge for the Winnipeg Police Service.
