“10-Year-Old’s Make-A-Wish Dream: Meeting Hockey Idols”

A 10-year-old boy named Myer Gallant from O’Leary, P.E.I., faced a tough decision when given the opportunity to Make-A-Wish. Instead of opting for a pool or a Disney cruise, Myer chose to meet his hockey idols, Sidney Crosby and Ryan Graves, and watch a Pittsburgh Penguins game. Myer, who has spinal muscular atrophy, fulfilled his dream last week when he traveled to Pittsburgh with his mother, Jaclyn Ellis, and cousin Rowan Rennie.

The experience left a lasting impact on Myer and his family. Ellis praised Make-A-Wish for their incredible work but highlighted how the Penguins went above and beyond to make the trip unforgettable. Upon their arrival in Pittsburgh, the group attended a Penguins practice and game. Myer was surprised to find a personalized locker set up for him in the dressing room, complete with a helmet, hockey bag, hats, and a jersey with his name and number 87.

Meeting Sidney Crosby was a highlight for Myer, who even signed a contract to be an honorary Penguin for a day. He felt both excited and nervous as he fist-bumped the players and announced the starting lineup in the locker room. The Gallant family, including Myer, Ellis, and Rennie, also brought gifts from the Maritimes to thank Crosby and Graves, who both hail from Nova Scotia.

The unexpected kindness of Ryan Graves, who invited the family to the dressing room before the game, added an extra special touch to the experience. Myer and Rowan, who are cousins and best friends, shared the joy of meeting their hockey heroes together. A surprise gift from Crosby, including Team Canada jerseys for both boys, left them in awe.

For Ellis, witnessing her son’s joy and the players’ interactions with both Myer and Rowan was a heartwarming experience. The Penguins’ generosity and the special bond between the boys made the trip truly exceptional.
