A mining company based in Vancouver has reported the abduction of 10 of its employees at a project site in Concordia, located in the state of Sinaloa, Mexico. The region has been embroiled in a cartel conflict since 2024. Vizsla Silver confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation is ongoing and details are limited at this time.
The company has informed Mexican authorities and activated its crisis management and security response teams. As a precaution, Vizsla Silver has halted certain operations at the affected site, where it is developing the Panuco silver and gold mining project.
Reports from local media indicate that most of the abducted employees are Mexican nationals. The Sinaloan attorney general’s office has launched an investigation into the case following a report of the incident on January 24. State and federal authorities, including the military, are collaborating on search efforts, with a recent search warrant executed as part of the ongoing probe.
According to Latinus, armed individuals seized the company employees from a rented residence in Concordia on January 23. Global Affairs Canada acknowledged the security incident and confirmed that the Canadian embassy in Mexico is liaising with local authorities, clarifying that no Canadian citizens are known to be involved in the abduction.
Mexico’s Security and Citizen Protection Secretariat has not provided immediate comments on the matter. The Sinaloa cartel’s internal strife, a major criminal organization, has resulted in numerous casualties and disappearances in the state. Vizsla Silver has yet to respond to requests for further details on the incident.
