Ontario Suspect Seeks Anonymity for Bail Supervisors

An individual from Ontario, apprehended in a crackdown aimed at suspected associates of Canadian escapee Ryan Wedding, is seeking court protection for the anonymity of those willing to supervise him on bail. Rolan Sokolovski’s legal team has requested a ban on disclosing any details that could reveal his potential sureties before his upcoming bail hearing. Sokolovski, holding dual Lithuanian-Canadian citizenship, is among several Canadians facing extradition to the U.S. in connection with an FBI probe into Wedding, a former Olympic snowboarder believed to be leading an international drug trafficking syndicate.

According to U.S. authorities, Sokolovski is accused of money laundering for the criminal group and purchasing luxury items for Wedding. Attorney Scott Fenton argued that unveiling the identities of Sokolovski’s proposed sureties could place them in significant jeopardy. On the other hand, Crown prosecutors contended that there is no substantiated danger to the sureties and that concealing their identities would withhold crucial information from the public regarding the court’s decision on Sokolovki’s potential release.

The Ontario Superior Court is anticipated to make a ruling on this matter as Sokolovski’s bail hearing commences. Sokolovski, aged 37, as per his U.S. indictment, is also identified as a professional poker player, jeweler, and procurer. Allegations suggest that he managed bookkeeping for the organization and laundered drug proceeds through his jewelry business. Court documents further claim that Sokolovski crafted a valuable necklace as payment to an individual implicated in assisting with a federal witness’s murder by providing information to Wedding.

The FBI has labeled Wedding, believed to be evading capture in Mexico, as one of its top fugitives. In a separate case, a lawyer from the Toronto area, accused of playing a pivotal role in the criminal operation, was granted bail with stringent conditions, including constant house arrest, with his wife and another relative serving as sureties. The lawyer, Deepak Paradkar, is alleged to have guided Wedding on witness elimination, introduced the former athlete to drug traffickers, and managed intelligence operations post-seizure of drugs by law enforcement.

In an unrelated development, the FBI in Miami confiscated an ultra-rare Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR Roadster estimated at US $13 million during its investigation into Wedding’s network. It was revealed that Sokolovski had purchased the vehicle.
