“Nova Scotia Boy Dies in Dog Attack: Community Mourns”

In a tragic incident, a 13-year-old boy from a community in Nova Scotia has passed away after being attacked by three dogs. The young victim, Drew Nickerson, is being fondly remembered as an outdoor enthusiast and a beloved friend by many. A heartfelt tribute penned by a family member is now featured in an online fundraiser aimed at supporting the boy’s grieving mother.

Drew, a Grade 8 student at Shelburne Regional High School, leaves behind a void that will be deeply felt, according to the Tri-County Regional Centre for Education. The school has put in place support services to assist fellow students during this difficult time.

The fatal attack occurred on Saturday evening, around 5 p.m., while Drew was cycling on Upper Sandy Cove Road in Welshtown, N.S., situated approximately 12 kilometers north of Shelburne. Following the incident, he was swiftly airlifted via LifeFlight helicopter to a hospital in Halifax, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Law enforcement officials disclosed that the dogs responsible for the attack, identified as “large-breed” canines, were euthanized under the care of a veterinarian. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) announced that their investigation into the matter is ongoing, with no charges filed as of yet.

The local community is in shock and mourning over the tragic loss of the young boy, as they come to terms with the devastating event that has unfolded.
