Montreal Iranians Rally for Change in Iran

Montreal’s Iranian community gathered in the city center on Saturday to express solidarity with Iran amid ongoing protests driven by economic challenges and discontent with the government. Demonstrators called for freedom, democracy, and human rights in Iran, emphasizing the need for a change in the current regime.

Recent internet and phone disruptions in Iran have raised concerns about escalated repression against protestors, with reports indicating over 65 deaths and more than 2,300 detentions. Iranian Montrealers at the rally voiced worries about the well-being of their loved ones in Iran due to the communication blackout, feeling powerless and stressed by the lack of contact.

While some fear external intervention, others believe in Iranians’ ability to bring about internal change. Despite differing opinions on foreign involvement, the primary focus remains on supporting the people in Iran who are risking their lives for a better future. Calls for freedom of expression and peaceful assembly have been echoed by Canadian leaders, urging Iran to respect human rights and allow for democratic processes.

The Montreal rally participants expressed hope for a new regime in Iran that prioritizes peace and economic stability, highlighting the importance of standing in solidarity with those advocating for change within the country.
