The Canadian Screen Awards will recognize actor Mike Myers, sportscaster Hazel Mae, and others during the upcoming Canadian Screen Week. Myers, Mae, Canadian Film Centre executive director Maxine Bailey, and filmmaker Chandler Levack’s film “Mile End Kicks” will be honored for their significant contributions to film and television. Tammy Frick, CEO of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, praised their achievements as inspiring the next generation of storytellers and showcasing Canada’s talent in the screen arts.
Canadian Screen Week is scheduled to take place in Toronto from May 27 to May 31, culminating in the Canadian Screen Awards ceremony celebrating excellence in Canadian cinema, television, and digital media.
Mike Myers, known for his roles in “Saturday Night Live,” “Austin Powers,” and “Shrek,” will receive the Academy Icon Award. The Canadian Academy recognizes Myers as a versatile performer with over 80 film and television credits to his name as an actor, writer, producer, and director.
Hazel Mae, a prominent figure in Canadian sportscasting, will be presented with the Gordon Sinclair Award for Broadcast Journalism in acknowledgment of her outstanding work covering events like the World Series. Maxine Bailey of the Canadian Film Centre will be honored with the Changemaker Award for her efforts in promoting diversity and inclusion in the Canadian media industry.
Chandler Levack’s film “Mile End Kicks” will receive the Sustainable Production Award for its environmentally conscious production practices. The film, set in Montreal’s Mile End neighborhood, is recognized for its commitment to sustainability in both production methods and storytelling.
The Canadian Screen Awards ceremony, hosted by actor Andrew Phung, will be broadcast on CBC and stream on CBC Gem on May 31 at 8 p.m. ET. The event will also be simulcast on Bell-owned CTV and Crave, as well as Corus-owned Global and STACKTV.
