GTA School Boards Close Monday After Snowstorm

School boards across the Greater Toronto Area have announced closures for Monday following a severe snowstorm that hit the region on Sunday. The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) and Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) made social media posts confirming the closure of all schools and administrative buildings due to ongoing snow removal efforts. Exams scheduled for Monday will be rescheduled to Thursday.

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board also declared closures for all its facilities on Monday. Likewise, the York Region District School Board and York Region Catholic District School Board have announced closures for Monday, with exams rescheduled accordingly.

Peel District School Board stated that all activities within school premises, including exams, childcare, and night school, will be closed on Monday. Durham District School Board has also canceled school for Monday due to the winter storm and significant snowfall forecasts.

The Peterborough, Victoria, Northumberland, and Clarington Catholic School Board announced closures for Monday, including before- and after-school programs. Additionally, the Viamonde School Board and Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir have declared closures for several regions due to severe weather conditions.

Environment Canada issued an orange winter storm warning predicting heavy snowfall across the GTA, with some areas expected to receive over 60 centimeters of snow accumulation. The City of Toronto has declared a significant weather event and activated its snow response plan, with Mayor Olivia Chow emphasizing the extensive snow clearing efforts in the city.

The upcoming Monday is expected to pose transportation challenges due to the aftermath of the storm, as mentioned by Toronto’s city manager, Paul Johnson. High school exams have been postponed in various districts, with rescheduled dates provided by the respective school boards.
