“Former Toronto Mayor John Tory Named Chair of TIFF Board”

John Tory, the former mayor of Toronto, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Expressing his enthusiasm for the role, Tory stated his eagerness to collaborate with the board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider TIFF community in shaping the future direction of the festival.

Tory’s tenure officially commences on October 1, as confirmed in a recent news release. This year’s festival is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 20. He steps into the position previously held by Jeffrey Remedios, who had been serving as chair since 2021 and expressed his lasting pride in contributing to TIFF’s journey.

Additionally, TIFF announced the appointment of three new members to its board of directors: Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch Echevarría. Meanwhile, Asha Daniere, who has served on the board for nine years, will be stepping down. TIFF expressed gratitude for Daniere’s dedicated service and contributions to the organization.
