Drake’s highly anticipated ninth studio album, named Iceman, was finally released after a series of mysterious teasers, including a massive mountain of ice blocks in downtown Toronto and a CN Tower takeover. Alongside Iceman, two surprise albums, Habibti and Maid of Honour, were also dropped at midnight during Drake’s recent livestream titled Iceman Episode 4. The trio of albums, totaling 43 songs and approximately two and a half hours in duration, marks Drake’s first solo releases since 2023.
Drake had hinted at Iceman as far back as August 2024, after his well-publicized rap battle with Kendrick Lamar. During his Australian tour in 2025, Drake described the album as a personal connection with his fans, emphasizing its significance.
<Iceman delves into Drake’s reflections on his feud with Kendrick Lamar, evident right from the intro track, Make Them Cry. The album serves as a platform for Drake to not only address the aftermath of the feud but also take jabs at various individuals, including Lamar, DJ Khaled, A$AP Rocky, DeMar DeRozan, LeBron James, and Universal Music Group CEO Lucian Grainge.
Throughout the album, Drake references past beefs and collaborations, such as his track First Person Shooter with J. Cole, which initiated the conflict with Lamar. Tracks like 2 Hard 4 the Radio pay homage to Oakland rapper Mac Dre while subtly targeting Lamar. The album artfully weaves personal anecdotes and musical references into a tapestry of lyrical depth.
The music videos accompanying Iceman showcase various Toronto landmarks, capturing Drake in iconic locations like Sotto Sotto and the CN Tower. Notably, the videos incorporate Canadian symbols and visuals, reinforcing Drake’s connection to his roots.
In addition to Iceman, Drake surprised fans with Habibti and Maid of Honour, exploring different genres and themes. Habibti delves into the complexities of relationships, while Maid of Honour ventures into dancehall, house, Afro-swing, and U.K. rap, setting the stage for vibrant summer vibes.
Drake’s triple album release not only reaffirms his musical prowess but also demonstrates his versatility and ability to resonate with audiences across various genres and themes.
