Grammy award-winning artist Chappell Roan has responded to claims made by Brazilian-Italian footballer Jorginho regarding an incident involving his 11-year-old stepdaughter and a security guard. Jorginho, known as Jorginho Frello and a player for Flamengo, alleged that his wife and stepdaughter encountered the singer at a Sao Paulo hotel where both parties were staying for the Lollapalooza Brazil music festival. According to Jorginho, the security guard approached his family aggressively after his daughter recognized Roan during breakfast.
The young girl is the daughter of Catherine Harding, Jorginho’s wife, and British actor Jude Law. Jorginho expressed disappointment in Roan’s response to the situation, stating that the singer did not deserve her fans’ admiration.
In her own Instagram statement on the matter, Roan clarified that the security guard was not part of her personal security team and claimed she did not notice a woman and child during the incident. She emphasized that it was unjust for security to assume ill intentions without cause and expressed sadness at the discomfort felt by the mother and child involved.
Following the controversy, Rio’s new mayor Eduardo Cavaliere joined the conversation, suggesting that Roan would not be permitted to perform on Copacabana Beach like other international stars. Cavaliere also mentioned that Jorginho’s daughter would be a guest of honor at an upcoming concert by Colombian singer Shakira. Roan, a prominent figure in the pop music scene known for tracks like “Good Luck, Babe!,” “Red Wine Supernova,” and “Hot To Go!” from her album “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess,” won the Grammy for Best New Artist in February.
Jorginho later shared a story about his daughter’s excitement at attending Sabrina Carpenter’s show at Lollapalooza, reassuring followers that all was well.
