Author Rachel Reid has announced a delay in the release of her upcoming hockey romance novel, “Unrivaled,” due to the challenges posed by her newfound fame and the progression of her Parkinson’s disease symptoms. Originally scheduled for a fall release, Reid revealed in a recent Instagram video that fans can now expect the book to hit shelves in June 2027.
“Unrivaled” will continue the story of hockey rivals turned secret lovers, Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, in Reid’s popular “Game Changer” series. The success of the first two books, “Heated Rivalry” and “The Long Game,” has led to a television adaptation starring Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie, catapulting Reid to significant literary acclaim.
In her Instagram message, Reid explained, “My recent life changes have limited the time I can dedicate to writing, but ensuring ‘Unrivaled’ is of the highest quality is my top priority.” She acknowledged the bittersweet nature of success, mentioning that her Parkinson’s symptoms have worsened, making the writing process physically challenging and slower.
Reid first learned of her Parkinson’s diagnosis in 2023, coinciding with director Jacob Tierney’s interest in adapting her work for television. The adaptation has been renewed for a second season on Crave and HBO Max, where it achieved top ratings during its initial run.
Despite the setback, fans can anticipate the continuation of Reid’s captivating storytelling in “Unrivaled,” as she navigates the complexities of fame and health challenges while striving to deliver another compelling addition to the “Game Changer” series.
