A man named Cole Tomas Allen, around 31 years old, from Torrance, California, was apprehended as the suspect involved in the shooting incident at the White House correspondents’ dinner. Based on social media profiles, Allen appears to be a part-time teacher and game developer, possibly a Caltech graduate.
Law enforcement officials believe that Allen, who was a guest at the Washington Hilton hotel where the annual dinner was being held, had no clear motive for the shooting. Online posts indicate that Allen was recognized as “Teacher of the Month” in December 2024 by the Torrance office of C2 Education.
His LinkedIn profile describes him as a mechanical engineer, computer scientist, independent game developer, and teacher. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Caltech in 2017 and a master’s degree in computer science from California State University at Dominguez Hills in 2025.
Allen has been working as a part-time teacher for C2 Education and a self-employed game developer for several years. Previously, he worked as a mechanical engineer for IJK Controls and as a teaching assistant at Caltech. The suspect was armed with a shotgun and was taken into custody after firing at a Secret Service agent at the hotel where the event was attended by President Donald Trump and other officials.
President Trump stated that Allen had expressed anti-Christian sentiments in a manifesto and that his family had raised concerns about him to authorities before. The motive behind the attack, whether Trump was the target, and the exact reasons for Allen’s actions remain unclear.
