“South Park” to Rebrand as “South America” in Satirical Twist

In a surprising move reminiscent of Donald Trump’s tactics, the long-running animated series “South Park” has decided to rebrand itself for its upcoming 29th season as “South America.”

The name change announcement is a satirical jab at the U.S. president’s penchant for renaming geographical features to include “America,” following in the footsteps of tech giants Apple and Google. The show’s creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, expressed gratitude to their parent company Paramount in a statement released to various media outlets.

This decision holds added significance due to the connection between “South Park’s” parent company, Paramount Skydance, and David Ellison, who denies any association with Trump despite facing legal action over alleged dealings related to the Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery merger.

Trump’s trend of renaming landmarks began during his second term, with efforts to change the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and Lake Ontario to Lake America. While some entities have resisted adopting the new names, Apple and Google have come under fire for updating their maps to reflect the changes.

The timing of “South Park’s” name change coincides with Trump’s recent suggestion to rename New Mexico as New America. Whether this alteration is a temporary joke or a theme for the new season remains to be seen, but it aligns with the show’s tradition of lampooning Trump and his administration with Emmy-winning irreverence.

The series, known for its boundary-pushing humor since 1997, has frequently targeted Trump and his allies, drawing criticism and controversy for its bold satirical portrayals. With its upcoming season set to premiere on Comedy Central and Paramount+, fans can expect more sharp commentary from the newly dubbed “South America.”
