Nova Scotia native Baby Nova is set to make a triumphant return to the Osheaga Music Festival in Montreal, this time as a performer on the main stage. A decade ago, she attended the festival as a fan, but now she is excited and nervous about showcasing her talent. Baby Nova, an indie-pop musician hailing from Halifax and now based in Los Angeles, gained recognition with the release of her debut album, “Shhugar,” which was longlisted for Canada’s prestigious Polaris Music Prize. Her rising star status was further solidified when she was included in Spotify’s Artists to Watch list for 2026 and featured at Rolling Stone Canada’s Future of Music showcase.
In addition to her Osheaga performance, Baby Nova is also scheduled to play at Fono Festival in Quebec City and Sommo Festival in P.E.I. Her journey to success has been years in the making, starting back in her youth when she was inspired by the TV series “Hannah Montana.” Talent scouts searching for the next teen sensation like Hannah Montana led Baby Nova to attend a summer camp, where she first discovered her passion for music. Despite initial doubts about her talent, she persisted and honed her skills, eventually landing a publishing deal at 17 to write songs for other artists.
After leaving Halifax for Montreal following high school, Baby Nova embarked on a nomadic lifestyle, living in various cities like Toronto, New York, and Los Angeles to pursue her music career. Despite facing financial and mental struggles along the way, she persevered. A pivotal moment came when, almost broke, she impressed an artist and repertoire representative with her own music, leading to a breakthrough opportunity. This experience taught her the importance of pushing through challenges, and it continues to drive her forward in her musical journey.
