However, early intervention through vaccines and antibodies shortly after exposure can prevent the disease from progressing. The virus affects the nerves at the entry point before spreading to the spinal cord and brain, resulting in fatality.
Instances of rabies in humans in Canada are infrequent, with bats being the primary carriers of the virus. Contact with bats poses a high risk due to their small teeth, which can cause unnoticed bites or transmit saliva through skin contact. Health care providers recommend immediate consultation if any contact with bats occurs.
