“Frosty the Horse Rescued from Frozen Creek in Cochin”

In Cochin, Saskatchewan, a horse that had fallen into a frozen creek is now affectionately referred to as Frosty. The incident occurred when a resident alerted the village about the trapped horse. Cochin’s mayor, Mark Pattinson, along with his friend Ed Scott, rushed to the scene. They found the struggling horse in four feet of icy water. Initial attempts to rescue the horse using ropes and manpower, supported by community members, were unsuccessful.

Subsequently, a Jeep with a winch arrived at the scene, along with additional locals and RCMP officers. Ed Scott maneuvered close to the horse through the thick vegetation, attaching a strong rope to the winch of his Jeep. The horse was successfully winched out of the frozen creek within 30 minutes, although it was evident that the animal had been in distress for an extended period.

Despite his exhaustion and frost-covered body, the horse eventually regained strength and stood up. He was then covered with a blanket and led to the village shop for warmth. Frosty, as he is now known, was discovered to be without a current owner as his previous owner had passed away. Thanks to the collective efforts of the community, including providing hay, feed, and medical care, Frosty was transported to a veterinary clinic for further treatment.

The heartwarming rescue mission garnered overwhelming support from locals, with offers to cover veterinary expenses and provide assistance. Frosty’s journey to recovery continues as he receives care at the Lakeland veterinary clinic in North Battleford.
