FIFA is planning to introduce a halftime show at the World Cup final this summer, featuring Shakira, Madonna, and K-pop sensation BTS. The event, set to take place at the Metlife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19, aims to raise $100 million for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund to support children’s education and soccer access.
The halftime show, curated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin, is inspired by the Super Bowl-style concert format known for attracting top music stars like Michael Jackson, Prince, and Rihanna. While traditional soccer halftime breaks are typically 15 minutes for player rest, it is uncertain if this will be extended for the performance.
The announcement has sparked discussions online, with some fans debating whether halftime shows should be exclusive to American football. However, FIFA President Gianni Infantino believes the event will combine music and football for a meaningful cause, emphasizing the importance of providing children with opportunities to dream.
In addition to the World Cup final halftime show, FIFA confirmed that Reggaeton artist J Blavin will perform at the opening ceremony in Mexico City, alongside a lineup of other artists celebrating Mexican culture. The 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by Canada, the United States, and Mexico, will span June and July.
