“Netflix Announces Sequel to Hit Film ‘KPop Demon Hunters'”

Netflix has officially announced the development of a sequel to the immensely popular film “KPop Demon Hunters,” which holds the record as the most-watched movie on the streaming platform. The upcoming installment will further the creative partnership between Netflix and co-directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, marking the first project under their new exclusive multi-year animation writing and directing deal.

Expressing pride as a Korean filmmaker, Kang, who hails from Toronto, emphasized the audience’s desire for more of the Korean narrative and characters. The sequel will delve deeper into the world they have crafted, promising an exciting continuation.

The original musical film, animated by Sony Pictures Animation, follows the K-pop girl trio Huntrix—Rumi, Mira, and Zoey—who juggle their fame as pop stars with their covert roles as demon hunters. The movie’s standout song, “Golden,” performed by lead vocalists EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami, ascended to the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

Accolades poured in for the film, with wins at prestigious award ceremonies like the Critics Choice Awards and the Golden Globes. Notably, “Golden” clinched a Grammy for Best Song Written for Visual Media, marking a historic achievement for a K-Pop track.

Netflix reported record-breaking viewership for the movie, amassing 482 million views over six months, along with 32 million views for its lyric videos. The film’s soundtrack continues to resonate globally, maintaining its popularity.

Looking ahead to the sequel, Appelhans emphasized the importance of a clear creative vision from the outset to ensure a meaningful and engaging continuation of the story. Plans are underway to deliver another captivating installment that resonates with audiences worldwide.
