Tommy Fury has insisted he’s never cheated on Molly-Mae Hague as the British boxing star opens up on his split with the former Love Island contestant.
In January 2023 the couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Bambi, and got engaged in Ibiza – with Bambi being part of the romantic proposal. However, last August, Molly-Mae announced the shock news that her and Tommy had split.
At the time it was reported it was because Tommy had cheated, but the 25-year-old has called rumours about seeing other women ‘complete and utter b******s.’ In an emotional interview with Men’s Health, Fury revealed he suffered from alcohol problems after picking up an injury, stating that his mental health was ‘in the pan’.
“The reason why me and Molly broke up was because I got addicted to alcohol and I couldn’t be the partner that I wanted to be anymore,” he said. “It kills me to say it, [but] it’s true, I couldn’t. I loved a pint of beer, loved to drink, and it is what it is. People go through different things in life and we all have our crosses to bear. I’ve got mine to bear.”
The boxer, who has been forced to pull out of a few bouts over the years, claimed his issues started after suffering an injury back in 2019. Fury snapped all the ligaments in his right hand – which eventually lead to reconstructive surgery in early 2024. After admitting 2023 was ‘the best year’ that ‘has ever happened’ to him, ‘TNT’ was ruled out for the whole of last year, despite desperate plans to stay active.
His last fight took place back in October of 2023, defeating fellow social media star KSI via decision. During his recovery last year, Fury explained how a large part of his identity was taken away from him due to the fact that he was no longer able to go to the gym. The 25-year-old then bravely admitted his diet and fitness started to slip before turning to alcohol.
“I’ve only lived for training and my family, and that was all snatched away from me. So what I did for fun is I started to drink quite a lot. I found that’s what made me feel better,” he added. “I wanted the endorphins that I’d get when I’d finish a good session, when I’d finish sparring, when I’d finish fighting.”
‘TNT’ stated he would go out a lot and drink to ‘get black-out drunk’. It was then his relationship with Molly-Mae began to deteriorate. Fury explained that he never cheated on the ex-Love Island star as well as stating he kept a strong bond with his daughter during the rough period in his life.
“Cheating was never a thing. You can ask Molly this yourself. It was the drink, and the drink is not a good thing. You need to get a grip of it. If you’re in the same spot as me, where you just think that it’s going to cure all your problems, it doesn’t. You wake up even worse and you want to drink more to try and feel happy again. That’s the cycle of it.”
