Olympic gold medallist Noah Lyles and NFL speedster Tyreek Hill are finally set to settle the score on who’s fastest.

The pair have been trading jibes for some time, and this much-anticipated race will see the world’s fastest man take on the NFL’s ‘quickest feet’. Both are finally set to clash on the track in either spring or summer in what has been described as a ‘winner-take-all’ race.

While Miami Dolphins wide receiver Hill boasts a reputation as one of the fleetest in his sport, Lyles has been tearing up the track of late. At the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, he made history by emulating Usain Bolt’s feat, bagging the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay golds.

The 27-year-old sprinter then clinched his inaugural Olympic gold in the 100m at Paris last summer. In a nail-biting race where every runner clocked under 10 seconds, Lyles set a personal record of 9.784 seconds, narrowly beating Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson by just five-thousandths of a second to grab the Olympic title. Yet, Hill wasn’t impressed, and the two are now set to do cleated battle.

Following the Olympic triumph in August, Hill reaffirmed his earlier challenge to Lyles for a 50-metre sprint. Having previously spoken on Up and Adams in August, he confidently declared: “I would beat Noah Lyles [in a race]. I wouldn’t beat him by a lot, but I would beat Noah Lyles.”

Hill also told PEOPLE: “This has been an ongoing thing for quite some time now, and I mean, everybody’s seen the back-and-forth on social media. I’ve been very adamant to show people what real, true speed looks like.”

Earlier this month, Lyles flaunted a sign with the words “Tyreek could never” after securing his fourth consecutive 60m win at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix on Feb. 2. Lyles explained the message behind the sign to PEOPLE, saying: “I think it speaks for itself.

“Everybody says that they’re gonna be the world’s fastest, but when it comes down to it, you gotta be the winner every time, each and every time, and every time I show up to the biggest moments, I win.”

While Hill has voiced his respect for the Team USA sprinter, he’s eager to represent the NFL‘s athletic prowess. He clocked an impressive 4.29 seconds in the 49-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine before being drafted in 2016, reports the Mirror US.

The much-anticipated race between Hill and Lyles is scheduled before the goals medallist heads to the U.S. Championships in July, though the venue remains undecided.
