Holly Willoughby has admitted that she’s petrified of ice skating.
The Dancing On Ice host says she’s in awe of the celebrities taking part in this series – but says she has no plans to get her skates on. “I’d like to have a go with some lessons, but being spun around and filmed on TV is what I would find terrifying,” Holly confessed.
“This is why when anyone agrees to do the show, I’m like, hats off to you. I might do it if I’m standing still, but I don’t want to commit to that because before you know it, it’ll be in my contract! So I think no is the safest answer.”
Meanwhile co-host Stephen Mulhern is determined to get on the ice and is having lessons. “I am practicing and it is hard!” he said. “I really wish after the last series I started taking lessons, but my legs are still aching, and I have only done two lessons! If I can get up to a standard where I can stand up, you might see me. Otherwise, you’re going to see another Todd Carty moment! I really, really want to get on the ice – one hundred percent… so, if I can, I will!”
Holly, who is also currently fronting Netflix show Bear Hunt, opened up about her live telly nerves, despite working on the box for 25 years. “It’s good to be nervous on live TV, because the moment that you’re not is when it will come round to bite you on the bum!” laughed Holly, 43.
This year’s DOI line up includes former footballer Anton Ferdinand, 39, EastEnders actress Charlie Brooks, 43, and Traitors favourite Mollie Pearce, 23. Holly says she’s been impressed by one particular celeb. “I had no idea that Michaela Strachan had a background in musical theatre, and she’s incredible!” she said.
Stephen agrees: “I think Michaela has a great chance. I also didn’t realise that Anton would be that good.”
Stephen says he’d love to get pals Ant and Dec on the ice – and see them fall. “I would love them to stack it every week!” he laughed. “Everybody always says to me, would you ever go on I’m A Celebrity and I always say no because I would never survive the eating trials. But I know if I did go on I’m A Celeb, they [Ant and Dec] would make my life hell. So they would be at the top of my list.”
