Demi Moore literally dazzled as she arrived at the 2025 BAFTAs in a shimmering Alexander McQueen gown.
The 62-year-old Hollywood star was nominated for the Best Actress award for her portrayal of Elisabeth Sparkle in horror-drama The Substance – a showstopping satire about fame, desire and sexism. Arriving at the Royal Festival Hall in London on Sunday night, Demi drew gasps as she walked the red carpet of the EE BAFTA Film Awards in a bejewelled gown.
The dress was coated in gleaming beading of gold, silver, red, blue and green – while she added jewellery from iconic diamond company De Beers and wore heels by Christian Louboutin. The star flashed a winning smile as she arrived at the event with her hair slicked around her shoulders.
Demi has had a long and varied career that began in the 1980s – with her star turn in 2024’s The Substance regarded as a career best. She has previously explained that the storyline – that sees and ageing actress struggle to maintain a career – struck a chord when she read it, but she had no idea how successful the film would become.
She told Variety last year: “I didn’t know how the movie was going to go. It’s so out of the box. It could have either really worked or been a disaster. To be completely transparent, body horror is not a genre I was extremely familiar with.” She added: “The film raises an important idea: When you chase after something you think is better, you risk losing what you have.”
The star went on to confide that she was given perspective of her own life after starring in the blockbuster – which has made over $77 million (£61 million) at the box office. She said: “It’s not hugely different before and after. But it gave me a greater appreciation for myself as I am. One of the biggest themes of my career is challenging preconceived ideas and limitations. I’m at a point where I’m writing my own story, as opposed to my story being dictated to me based on my age.
“Who says somebody can’t look a certain way or do certain things? Your 60s is not what your 60s used to be. There’s a part of me that’s enjoying figuring it out as I go along. I had more challenges, particularly in my career, in my 40s than I do now. At that time, no one quite knew what to do with me. I wasn’t 30, but I wasn’t 40 in a way that people could comfortably identify me as a mother, etc. There was no place for me.”
During her Variety chat, Demi also reflected on some of the past highlights of her career – including her breakout role in the 1990 supernatural romance film Ghost. The film rights were recently obtained by Channing Tatum who hopes to re-make the classic through his production company – and Demi sounded anxious about the development.
She said: “There are some films better left alone, but it depends on what the take is. The success of “Ghost” is really about alchemy. Think about Whoopi, who anchored the comedy in a magical way. Or Tony Goldwyn, the boy next door who is the most unsuspecting villain. And the sweetness and virility of Patrick Swayze. Channing is incredibly intelligent and talented — who knows what he would bring to it if it happened.”
Asked if she would be open to reprising her role as Molly Jensen, she teased: “I’d have to see what they come up with.”
